Zero Waste

ABOUT US

Zero Waste Logo.jpeg

We don't need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly. "

-Anne Marie Bonneau

We advocate for sustainable and affordable waste practices on campus and worldwide. Through sustainability workshops, panels, blog posts, a strong social media presence, and collaborations with other campus orgs, we work to educate the UCLA community on how to live a lower impact life style.

Our campaign was created Fall 2016 as the

E-Waste Campaign and expanded to Zero Waste in Fall 2017. We won the Sustainability Program of the Year at the Green Gala 2018. Today we address a variety of topics including e-waste, food waste, single use items, fast fashion, and low impact transit.

Over the past three years we have had over 20 committee members serve our campaign. These members have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, grow in their sustainability efforts, and plan their own events with the support of our campaign and E3 behind them. Applications are released quarterly.

WHAT IS ZERO WASTE?

Zero Waste is a goal that is ethical, economical, efficient and visionary, to guide people in changing their lifestyles and practices to emulate sustainable natural cycles, where all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use.

Zero Waste means designing and managing products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them. Implementing Zero Waste will eliminate all discharges to land, water or air that are a threat to planetary, human, animal or plant health.
